Escena XI Para poner fin al espantapájaros
¿Qué debo decir sino ocuparme de los sonidos que se ocultan detrás de las puertas? Virar la mirada hacia el otro lado del jardín, obviar las flores. No existe remedio expedito para la locura del mediodia. No sirve un trago de vino, ni el aroma del café recién colado. Es triste la memoria cuando se aleja de los patios. Eso lo ve el espantapájaros desde su puesto de guardia. Él ya hace rato que guarda la sospecha: vendrán tras sus rastros de paja, encenderán antorchas a sus pies y como a Juana de Arco lo incinerarán sin darle crédito a sus visiones.
Hoy ha sido un día largo -piensa-, tanto que ha dejado muy poco para mañana. Sólo resta ir al baño, hacer las necesidades fisiológicas -cagar un poco, mear otro tanto-, quizás cepillarse los dientes, ir a la cama y dar tres vueltas antes de dormir.
Todo lo demás será una absoluta incoherencia: la yerba, el beso, la jaula y la jauría. Una marca exquisita para la traición.
El espantapájaros cierra los ojos y duerme, mientras tras las puertas continúan los murmullos.
